This refers to the article, “Under-estimating the potential” (February 10) by Atul K Thakur. It is refreshing to see such positivity about Nepal-India relationship coming from the Indian media. Otherwise, Kathmandu has been blamed for many things including the ISI operating in Nepal.
You have written that India needs to approach Nepal from a high-level political position, and that is absolutely what the Nepalis would love to see. But, though the high-level Indian leadership may not have given much importance to Nepal overtly in the last two decades, it is widely rumoured that Nepali leaders are directly approached by R&AW!
Also, it will be unfair not to recognise the proactive Indian leadership, which sent Mr Karan Singh to Nepal during the democratic movement of 2006 to resolve the situation. But the writer is absolutely correct in saying that India must approach Nepal politically now, and not through its bureaucrats or intelligence agencies.
