This refers to the editorial, “Delhi youth endorse BJP”, (September 14). The Aam Aadmi Party’s Chhatra Yuva Sangharsh Samiti’s political debacle in the Delhi University Students Union election is a timely warning to the AAP leadership to caution itself against sticking its head too far over the parapet.
It was surprising that the same AAP, that was questioning the BJP’s leadership over its dismal performance in the Delhi Assembly election was quick to term its own failure as a successful attempt at securing an ‘honourable vote percentage’. A party whose meteoric rise to the national stage was powered by the youth disillusioned by ‘establishment parties’ was now found dismissing the claims of DUSU results reflecting the mood outside the campus.
Students are wise enough to succumb to any material gratification over larger political and ideological issues. Display of money and muscle power might help create ripples in political water but it cannot be a substitute to good governance that requires a strong commitment to deliver electoral promises.
