Policy change

M Ratan

This refers to the article, “On China, when shall we learn the lessonsIJ” (September 23) by Claude Arpi. India tends to be more emotional and less realistic even as China continues to be inimical and hostile. China’s policies and attitudes are designed to keep us down. It will persist in propping up our adversary, Pakistan, in the belief that ‘my enemy’s enemy is my best friend’.

The Middle Kingdom explores all possible ways — economic, political, diplomatic and military — to belittle us. It is no one’s case that India should not improve relations with its neighbour. But, with a long, sad, experience of China’s expansionist, imperialistic ambitions, how can one ignore themIJ The present Government must see to it that our China policy is more Indian and not pro-China.
