Letter to the Editor

Peace prevails

Azhar A Khan

Sir — This refers to the editorial, “An open and bandh case” (September28). Undoubtedly, it is Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh’s composure that stands him out from the rest of his colleagues and helps him find solutions to some compliated issues with elan and in a pragmatic way as well.

Singh’s intervention in the prolonged ‘bandh’, called by the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) in West Bengal, has come to fruition with the GJM president anouncing withdrawal of the 100-day long protest which actually crippled both peace and development in Darjeeling for quite sometime now, a prime prodcer of tea being supplied countrywide.

In this way, the likelihood of tea prices expectedly going to shoot up has been stemmed by Singh’s efforts just before the festive season. Tea is a commodity that both the haves and the have-nots largely depend upon in terms of hospitality.
