Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Battle won, war remains” (August 23). As reported, the verdict of the Supreme Court is indeed historic. The Bharatiya Janata Party needs to be congratulated and complimented for raising and looking after the woes of the Muslim women. Ours is undoubtedly a male-dominated society and women are treated as secondary citizen.
On this matter, the Quran has been misquoted for far too long by male chauvinists, for their own advantage. During the medieval period, men used to go out to fight and spread religious word around, while women were left behind. Thus, almost an unspoken law was passed that men would look after women. Men eventually misquoted it and termed it as marrying multiple wives instead. Many Muslim men and mullahs would be much disappointed.
