Relations, in a sustained way between countries, have to be on a bilateral basis. Willy-nilly, India-Pakistan ties are based on a unilateral and one-sided approach by Pakistan. The latest evidence of that is Pakistan's statement that it had put on hold its proposal to grant the most-favoured nation status to India until after the 2014 lok Sabha election. What has Pakistan to got do with the 2014 electionIJ Why should it link the MFN status issue to elections in IndiaIJ
Enough is enough. India gave the MFN status to Pakistan years ago. It is time the Union Government gave a deadline to Pakistan on the issue. If Islamabad wavers, as it has until now, India must withdraw the MFN status to Pakistan. This alone will demonstrate our Government's determination to deal with our troublesome neighbour and help build the tottering image of the Manmohan Singh regime. People's patience has run out, and the voters will no longer be fooled by the Congress-led Government.
