Sir — This refers to the news report, “Advani adamant, BJP pleads” (June 11). The attitude of leaders like BJP veteran lK Advani shows that the party has lost its direction regarding its idealism. Mr Advani should know that idealism would be stagnant if it cannot adapt to change and the demands of the times.
Mr Narendra Modi is a charismatic and strong leader and is known to be a strong proponent of the politics of development. Mr Advani’s petty efforts to oppose the elevation of Mr Modi reminds one of the CPI(M)’s opposition to former West Bengal Chief Minister Jyoti Basu’s chance to be Prime Minister. Old is not always gold, andsometimes it’s a burden. Mr Advani’s resignation (read emotional blackmail) is a sad event and bad for the BJP.
