This refers to the article, “No place for them to call home” (April 30) by Mahesh Kaul. The fate of the minority Hindus in a country like Pakistan whose very foundation was erected on anti-Hindu lines, is destined to be doomed. It is foolish to expect that Pakistan will protect its minorities. Even non-Sunni Muslims are not safe there. Incidents of attacks on Ahmadiyas and Shias have become the order of the day in Pakistan. Now repeated attacks on their mosques do not surprise anyone.
The presence of a Shia country such as Iran has also failed to protect Shia Muslims in Pakistan. The situation has become so grim that even those Pakistanis who advocate equal rights for minorities and oppose anti-minority blasphemy laws are killed. Shahbaz Bhatti and Salmaan Taseer lost their lives because they stood up against fundamentalists. Pakistani Hindus, whose lives have turned into hell, deserve refugee status in India. In fact, they should be given Indian citizenship.
