No place for communal talk in inclusive society

Azhar A Khan

This refers to the editorial, “PM's stern warning” (February 18). Prima facie, the veracity of words coming straight from the horse's mouth, is not called into question. But Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s maintenance of deafening silence on some of his colleagues' unpalatable remarks, had given a contrary impression. He must act against these elements that are not only spreading poison but also seeking to derail his inclusive development agenda. Additionally, these utterances have an adverse bearing on India's image at global platforms. The Prime Minister's assurance to the minority communities about their religious freedom reflects his realisation that ‘enough is enough'.

However, communal remarks have also come from elements not within the BJP or elements within the Sangh parivar. They have been made by politicians who belong to various opposition groups that call themselves secular. Even they need to be reined in with similar might.
