NJAC problem

Vani A

This refers to the editorial, “The pendency problem” (April 26). Chief Justice of India TS Thakur was well prepared with his statistics and was able to conclusively nail successive Union and State Governments for ignoring the needs of the judiciary.

Ways can be found to tackle the pendency problem, provided the Centre and State Governments make the effort. But the real problem lies elsewhere. There is a Government-judiciary stand-off over the issue of the National Judicial Appointments Commission. The executive is not delaying the judges’ appointments without reason. It is miffed with the idea of judges appointing judges.
