This refers to the report, “Where is Nepal headedIJ” (November 30) by Navin Upadhyay. It was evident that the Maoist leadership in Nepal was bent on engaging in anti-India acts, so as to humiliate New Delhi.
History is a witness that for long, India has been the first country to help its neighbour in times of crises. The recent devastating earthquake is one of the latest examples. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was quick to send disaster response teams, medical aid, food items etc.
The promulgation of a new Constitution in Nepal led to a wide-spread dissatisfaction and agitation and also violence. To normalise the tense situation, caution was advised by India in Nepal’s own interest, but the Nepalese leadership regarded it as an Indian conspiracy to interfere in their country’s internal affairs; it shamelessly engineered anti-India acts.
India kept on telling the Government in Nepal that essential supplies of fuel and food were not stopped by it, but by the agitators who have been protesting against the new Constitution. Unfortunately, the Nepalese leadership did not realise that they are pursuing a suicidal path.
