Needed at home, Rahul is abroad yet again

M Ratan

This refers to the article, “Congress is losing its organisational depth”  (September 25) by Kalyani Shankar. The disappearance of Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi has emphasised the lack of seriousness on part of the party's major campaigner towards the crucial Bihar poll. A Congress spokesperson has clarified that Mr Gandhi has gone to the US to attend a conference but that does not change the assessment in India. The timing of Mr Gandhi’s trip is awkward.

No one can question Mr Gandh's right to travel, but the accompanying secrecy seems odd. The writer has rightly raised the issue of organisational problems that plague the party since the days of Indira Gandhi, who turned the party into a ‘centralised, family-centric’ organisation.

Sadly, the young leader has hardly made any effort to re-organise the grand old party. Mr Gandhi seems only to be interested in repeating his boring anti-Modi rhetoric of ‘suit-boot ki sarkar’.
