Mufti's indiscretion

KV Seetharamaiah

Sir — Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed seems to think that he heads a majority PDP Government. The release of separatist Masarat Alam, who was in detention for close to five years, has enraged all the parties. The Mufti’s unilateral decision to release him is not conducive for a healthy relationship between the coalition partners of the J&K Government. First, the Chief Minister gave credit to separatists, militants and Pakistan for the successful conduct of the Assembly election. As if this was not enough, he ordered separatist Alam’s release.

This shows that the Mufti is having a hidden agenda. It is time he understands the need for self-restraint while issuing statements and taking actions that are detrimental to the unity and security of the nation.
