Modi still ahead

KV Seetharamaiah
Sir — The Congress, with successive defeats in most States, has all the reasons to feel jubilant after it emerged victorious in Gurdaspur and Vengara by-polls. The victory is an extension to the Assembly election results this year. On the other hand, the Shiromani Akali Dal and the BJP must read the writing on the wall. They must not downplay the by-poll results. At the same time, the Congress cannot think that the Modi juggernaut has come to a standstill with these victories.
Prime Minister Modi’s approach to change the face of India for the better is above suspicion. Mistakes may happen. There is a line of demarcation between mistake without mala fide intention and mistakes for personal gains. ‘Mistakes’ without mala fide intention are condonable. But plundering the nation for personal gains is unpardonable. The Modi Government has been taking the nation on the path of glory. Hopefully, the Punjab Assembly poll and lok Sabha by-poll
results will not be the harbinger for the Congress to stage a comeback to power with its present pack of politicians.
