This refers to the editorial, “Akhilesh's grand gamble” (October 31). It is a pity that our representatives win elections riding on their respective party's public image and are, thereafter, lost in the inebriation of power. They turn a deaf year and blind eye to their responsibilities towards the people and thereby cause corrosion of public faith in the Government and its public welfare schemes.
Politically sagacious Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav's decision to re-shuffle his ministry seems to have stemmed from the same circumstances. Hopefully, it will prove pragmatic for his strategies for the next State Assembly election in 2017. Naturally, the Opposition will keep its doors open for the axed Samajwadi Party leaders, with a view to earning some brownie political points, while the newcomer aspirants will make a beeline to join the ruling regime. But that's the way politics is.
