Sir — This refers to the report, “Rahul leads Opp’s charge on land Bill” (May 13). Ever since Mr Rahul Gandhi returned from his two-month long holiday, he has become aggressive and has been directing barbs at the Prime Minister and the Union Government — often not entirely based on realities and facts. However, sections of the media, particularly the electronic media, have begun drooling over the Congress MP and giving him extensive coverage. They appear to have forsaken their prime responsibility, which is to question political leaders on their views, statements and policies.
It is disquieting that issues of vital national importance and significance are allowed to get clouded in meaningless rhetoric and semantics in debates that take place in television studios, and that wrong messages are being conveyed to the people as a result. This trend is unhealthy and needs to be checked. Inexplicably, though, the BJP does not seem to be effectively coming across in refuting the misrepresentations by the media.
