Mehbooba Mufti is now singing a different tune

M Ratan

This refers to the article, “Back to a fresh mandate in J&KIJ” (February 2) by Hari Om. After the Mufti’s death, Peoples Democratic Party chief Mehbooba Mufti was committed to fulfill her father's vision on the State. Ms Mufti was well aware of the fact that the Mufti had forged a historic alliance with the BJP despite ideological differences, to bridge the divide between the Hindu-majority Jammu and the Muslim-majority Kashmir, in the greater interest of the border State. Under the Mufti's leadership, the coalition dispensation seemed to work well as he gave no indication of any functional paralysis.

Hence, it is incomprehensible that the Mufti’s daughter is suddenly singing a different tune; she appears to be threatening to break up the alliance if the BJP-led Government at the Centre does not meet her conditions. If Ms Mufti is allergic to the alliance partner, why can't she be clear and recommend the dissolution of the Assembly and a fresh election or let the Governor explore other options for Government formation in Jammu & KashmirIJ
