This refers to the editorial, “Dalmiya's successors” (September 29). With Messrs Sourav Ganguly and Shashank Manohar taking over as the heads of the Cricket Administration of Bengal and the Board of Control for Cricket in India respectively, the vacuum created by the passing away of Jagmohan Dalmiya has been filled, at least for the time being.
Mr Ganguly was already the favourite of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, while former Union Minister Sharad Pawar and MP Anurag Thakur, who lead rival factions, have also agreed on his candidature. Hence, with strong support, Mr Ganguly’s election to the top post is just a mere
formality now. As for Mr Manohar, he enjoys the image of a person with stern rectitude, and also has prior presidential experience at the BCCI.
Both selections sit well with the present circumstances when the highest cricket-controlling body in India is beleaguered with charges of corruption and financial impropriety.
