Manage crowds

Madhu Agrawal
Sir — Stampedes, especially at Hindu religious temples attracting a heavy rush of devotees in peak seasons, have become a usual feature. Neither the Centre nor the States take enough preventive steps to stop such incidents from occurring.
The Centre, in consultation with the States, should prepare a list of temples, together with occasions on which these attract an unusually heavy rush of devotees. The surroundings of these temples and their approach-ways should be properly developed, like it’s the case with some popular temples such as the Tirupati-Balaji in Andhra Pradesh, to ensure that devotees are comfortably queued up, even though they may have to wait for long for a darshan.
