Making India proud on Gandhi Jayanti day

TT Sakaria

On Gandhi Jayanti, the Indian sports contingent brought joy and pride to the nation by gaining Gold medals in the men's hockey and the women's 4x400 metres relay at the Incheon Asian Games.

India not only defeated arch rival Pakistan in the hockey final, but also became eligible to directly participate in the next Olympics in Brazil. Though Pakistan thrashed India in the earlier match and also scored a goal first in the final match, India displayed skill with grit and returned the goal soon. Ultimately, in the penalty shoot-out, India ousted Pakistan by 4-2, thanks to a stellar performance by goalkeeper Sreejesh, who saved two goals in a thrilling show. Even Pakistan's coach remarked that he was a magician.

The women team in the 4x400 relay also demonstrated brilliance by finishing much ahead of its rivals, chiefly due to the performance by Tintu luka, who had already earned a Silver medal in the 800-metre event
