Sir — This refers to the article, “A tale of two men from Gandhinagar” (September 14) by Ashok Malik. It is apparent now that the BJP never really considered veteran leader lK Advani as the tallest leader, but he was first among equals like Jaswant Singh, MM Joshi and Yashwant Sinha to some extent.
The party’s tallest leader is the one and only Atal Bihari Vajpayee. After 2009, it was hoped that Mr Advani would relinquish his dream of leading the country and work towards a generational change in leadership in his party. But the BJP patriarch opposed the elevation of his one-time shishya Narendra Modi, and began to talk of the threats of polarisation.
