Sir — The bank loan waiver of farmers at the cost of economic growth is not desirable. The root cause of problems of farmers is not being able to repay the loans. For that, guidance at all levels to them to produce more of quality crops and marketing-selling measures for the crops is needed. The Government can either fix minimum price for the crop sales or purchase directly from them at a price, allowing them a sizeable profit. The Government can provide measures to help them get alternative income earnings also. The sources can be village industries like handloom or handmade potteries/craft items etc, in which their family members can be included in their spare time.
Also, according to the Supreme Court, freebies promised right before elections is prohibited. “Freebies shake the root of free and fair elections to a large degree”. loan waiver is also a freebie.
