Prime Minister Narendra Modi has rightly emphasised on Singapore as India’s ‘gateway to the East’. His visit must be seen together with his keenness in building bridges with Asia in general and Southeast Asia in particular. The phenomenal rise of Singapore is inspirational. Many politicians have dreamt of making their States ‘Singapore-like’ but with little success.
Mr Modi’s visit to the Indian National Army memorial, raised by Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, was also appropriate, following his Government’s decision to declassify the ‘Netaji files’.
