let Nitish quit NDA

A Seshagiri Rao

Sir — This refers to the news report, “Bihar BJP, JD(U) prepare for splitIJ” (June 12).

The Bharatiya Janata Party should have by now divorced the Janata Dal(United), considering Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s unpredictable moves. What baffles one is that Mr Nitish Kumar, while pretending to be and parading as a ‘secular’ leader, brazenly plays communal politics in his own State. And then, he opposes Mr Narendra Modi to appease the minority voters of Bihar.

In fact, Mr Modi has proved his credentials as a more secular leader than the so-called secularists. He has practised inclusive politics in Gujarat rather than being exclusive, as alleged by his detractors. His Government does not distinguish between the minority and the majority communities in matters of development, and it does not offer sops on religious grounds.

Moreover, the BJP cannot be strengthened in Bihar unless it goes solo in the State. And, if the BJP fails to dethrone Mr Nitish Kumar, the latter will remain a thorn in it’s flesh
