Sir — This refers to the report, “SC crisis refuses to die down” (January 16). let us stop glorifying the rebellious judges of the Supreme Court, who called the Press conference; raised an alarm about the democracy being in danger; talked high of selling conscience; and frankly admitted that they were driven by their personal agenda. It is now clear that their whole issue was non-allotment of important politically sensitive cases to them.
On the one hand, they said that all judges of the apex court are equal and on the other, they were grudging about allotment of certain cases to the judges ‘junior’ to them. Their reference of the case of death of Justice loya, in which the Congress is demanding a court-monitored probe and CPI(M) leader D Raja’s meeting with Justice Chelameswar just after the Press conference said a lot.
Internal differences in the judiciary is not new but the top judges of the apex court opting to make their problems known in public was unprecedented. The four judges have done irretrievable damage to the image of the highest judicial institution.
