Sir — This refers to the editorial, “One giant leap forward” (December 28). It is indeed a tribute to our missile scientists that the test-firing of Agni V was successful. Agni V, India’s most advanced ballistic missile, with new technology for navigation and guidance, gives India the strategic depth it needs to contain its enemies. It was truly imperative that we deploy this missile which is vital as a deterrent for those with ill intentions. The launch is truly a landmark in the country’s ongoing nuclear weaponisation programme.
