Former IPS officer and social activist Kiran Bedi's induction into the Bharatiya Janata Party ahead of the Delhi Assembly election is certain to boost the BJP's chances and diminish the hopes of the Aam Aadmi Party. Although the BJP has not officially projected Ms Bedi as its chief ministerial candidate, there are strong indications that she will be the Chief Minister in case the party wins a majority on its own. Of course, the BJP has other candidates in the fray, but nobody can deny that Ms Bedi is a high-profile figure who has acceptability across sections of the people in Delhi based on her competent track record.
In any case, her mere induction has energised the party, and the impact of that will be felt beyond the constituency that the party asks her to contest from. Neither the AAP nor the Congress can question her credentials. All they can do is to seek to embarrass her by questioning her ‘U-turn' in entering politics. But that's a flimsy tactic.
