Justice is of no use if it's late in coming

RC Sharma

This refers to the article, “Wheels of justice move too slow” (March 26) by Kushan Mitra. The author is right in saying that, if people do not see justice being done for the accused, for the prosecutor, for the victim and for the country in general, within a reasonable period of time, we stand to lose the democratic dividend. Taking advantage of the lethargic judicial system, crimes against women are being committed by anti-social elements with impunity.

Although many crimes under Sections of the IPC are non-bailable, the accused get bail without much difficulty, especially if they are influential. It is, therefore, essential that not only the law makers but also the judiciary should devise ways and means to deliver justice to suffering women within a time limit of three to six months, particularly when the present Chief Justice of India advocates ‘zero tolerance' for crimes against women.
