J&K needs development, not controversies

Azhar A Khan

This refers to the editorial, “An Idea, not Ideology” (March 3). At this juncture, when Jammu & Kashmir’s economy is creaking in the aftermath of the unprecedented floods, the arrival of a coalition Government to tackle the crisis has to be welcomed. The negotiations reached between the two ideologically different PDP and the BJP, led to the creation of an agenda for alliance. One hopes the new Government gets cracking to resolve issues that directly affect the people’s well-being.

The success of the coalition depends on the political sagacity of Chief Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed, who has the responsibility of spearheading the development agenda of the State with the support of the BJP, which also rules the Centre. He must, therefore, desist from making controversial statements. Expectations are that this historic coalition will not go the way similar alliances usually do, as the life-span of coalitions so far has been very short.
