This refers to the editorial, “Ahead in alliances too” (March 24). The additions to the NDA are a clear indication of not only Mr Narendra Modi's popularity but also his acceptance by many regional parties.
The development also strengthens our belief that politicians change colours as per the direction of wind. Weeks before Mr Modi was declared the BJP's prime ministerial nominee, the JD(U) broke ties with the BJP. It was then believed that it would be very difficult for Mr Modi in particular and the BJP in general to attract allies under their umbrella.
But, of late, the way various leaders are joining the BJP has changed many perceptions and altered the political equation. The more allies and potential winning candidates the BJP gets in its fold, the nearer it will reach to the 272 mark. In the post-poll scenario as well, once the NDA gets close to the 272 mark, the more chances are there of the combine attracting additional partners.
