This refers to the article, “Twist, turn and distort. left, right and centre” (November 4) by Rajesh Singh. I endorse the writer's indictment of sections of our media for their deliberate distortion of remarks made by ruling party leaders. Their prejudiced reporting has been irresponsible and lacking in professional objectivity. The columnist has aptly chosen to place side by side the lines of Union Minister VK Singh and Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi to underline the contrasting treatment the media gave to their statements.
Referring to the incident wherein two Dalit children died in a fire, Gen Singh noted that the tragedy probably occurred due to an old dispute between two families, and an inquiry was on. In a bid to illustrate that the Centre cannot be held responsible for every local incident, he gave the example of a stone being thrown at a dog. Instead of taking the remark in perspective, the media claimed he had compared Dalits to dogs!
