Letter to the Editor

It is for Nepal to choose between India and China

Priyadarshi Dutta

This refers to the article, “Two nations, one civilisation” (February 16) by Anirban R Banerjee. Despite Nepal being a demographically Hindu-majority nation, it has produced no illustrious philosopher on Hinduism. It has produced only Brahmin communists.

The recent blockade on the India-Nepal border was from the Nepalese side because the Madhesis’ demands were not met. The Madhesis were forthright in their demand, and imposed the blockade. India on the other hand, denied all allegations of the blockade. Nepal's Prime Minister KPS Oli, trying to appease China, kept reiterating the other way round. It was only when he realised that China is highly business-like, and has no place for emotions, that he said that Madhesis’ concerns will be looked into. Then, the blockade was removed.

The writer has done his best to show India’s friendly relations with Nepal. A democratic country like India, which also provides employment to lakhs of Nepalese, has done its bit. Now, Nepal has to choose between China and India.
