Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Terror strikes in Dhaka” (July 5). The hostage crisis in Dhaka painfully brings home the fact that religiously-inspired militants in Bangladesh are well organised to stage large-scale atrocities. The damage that the terrorists have inflicted is beyond anything Bangladesh has seen for a generation, marking a new phase for terrorism in the country which hitherto had been firm in its denial of an Islamic State (IS) presence. The lesson for all is that the IS can conduct sophisticated operations in locations supposedly secure.
