Interesting talk

PP Sen

Sir — This refers to the article, “Babri mosqueIJ Or was it Aurangzebi mosqueIJ” (March 2) by Rajesh Singh. The article is indeed an interesting piece to read. It reminds me of a discussion that is equally interesting. At the time when the issue of Ram mandir and Babri masjid was at its height, a friend of mine said, “Almighty wants to play with our sentiment by limiting our capacity to view the past beyond certain years.”

Another friend asked, “How do you want to view itIJ” The first one said, “Simple. By travelling back in time.” The second one said, “Not so simple.” The  first asked, “WhyIJ” The second one answered, “How do you recall a past eventIJ”

Slightly confused, the first one replied, “As far as possible by specifying the date and time of the event.” The second one interrupted and said, “Cosmos is unaware of any kind of man-made time reckoning tool like clock or calendar.”

Desperately, the first one said, “Well, we will specify a major celestial event around the time where we want to reach.” To this, the second one interrupted again, “Many celestial events are periodic in nature. You have to specify the repeat number if the event happen to be a periodic type.”

Irritated, the first one said, “Its not difficult. We’ll do that.” The second one asked, “What number system you’ll use to specify the countIJ Because god doesn’t believe in numbers. Otherwise he would play dice.” The discussion stopped here.

But we’ll not stop, because we like to speculate or play dice in spite of knowing that it can make an entry of such circumstances that can blacken our face or may be a complete era.
