Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Captain Cool’s legacy” (January 1). Mr MS Dhoni’s retirement from Test cricket has saddened his fans. He was the most successful captain of the Indian Test team. As a captain, he was the most successful batsman. Though the team’s recent defeats, one after the other, on foreign soil, had weakened his position as a captain, he should not have retired from the Test team. He could have called it a day as a captain, but not as a Test player. As a batsman and wicket-keeper, he rarely failed India. Filling the void created after his retirement as wicket-keeper-batsman, will be a difficult task.
