India's future

TS Karthik

Sir — August 12 is celebrated as International Youth Day. Incidentally, India has the world’s largest youth population of 356 million people in the 10-24 year age group, despite having a smaller population than China.

Today’s youth are more mature and well-informed than ever. Rightly so, the age for casting vote was reduced from 21 to 18 years to bring more youth into the ambit of the election process.

The need is for a healthy, focussed, creative, vibrant and dynamic youth who can take the country to reach great heights. For utilising this power of the youth, we need more programmes where their energy and enthusiasm can best be channelised. Their participation in all aspects of life will be detrimental to all.
