India-Pakistan talks will be relevant if resumed

Shreyans Jain

This refers to the article, “Peace talks play out in theatre of the absurd” (September 2) by Ashok K Mehta. India has made constant efforts to engage with Pakistan diplomatically to prevent extremist forces from derailing the confidence-building process. But in spite of severe condemnation of the cowardly attempts from across the border to perpetrate terror on the Indian soil and shaming on international forums, Pakistan has been unabashedly trying to create unrest in India through frequent provocations.

Unfortunately, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's repeated assurances to prevent the use of his country's soil for terrorist activities against India have not yielded any result. One wonders, even after Pakistan being warned of strict action against any form of ceasefire violation, if the Pakistani leadership will mend its ways. The Indian leadership has now left it to the Pakistanis to choose between terror and talks. let’s hope that something meaningful comes out of the dialogue between both the sides, if and when it resumes.
