Sir — This refers to the article, “Unlearned lessons from the 1962 war” (August 16) by Ashok K Mehta. With Doklam staring us in the face, India must not just catch up but surpass China in military strength and modernisation. That includes creating an additional one and half million men’s Army to defend the 4,000km long India-China border as well as manyfold increase in nuclear weapons.
China only respects military strength as is witnessed by the way it treats Russia and the US. India needs to earn the same respect. It must multiply its military prowess. Is the current Government willing to take the challengeIJ India does not have a choice but to rise up to meet the challenge of the synchronised China-Pakistan threat from Kutch in Gujarat to Arunachal Pradesh and beyond.
