Ignoring stalwarts

Jl Ganjoo

Sir — This refers to the report, “Modi, PM spar over Iron Man” (October 30). In a wilful attempt to overshadow Congress leaders like Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Abul Kalam Azad, Rafi Ahmed Kidwai, S Baldev Singh, Acharya JB Kripalani, C Rajagopalachari and a host of other stalwarts, the Congress led by Jawaharlal Nehru preferred to either ignore these leaders or paint them as being irrelevant. The Congress now wants us to believe that India’s freedom struggle began and ended at the doorsteps of the Nehru family, ignoring the fact that it was the common man, who, at Mahatma Gandhi’s call sacrificed everything for the cause of independence.
