I am afraid that the purpose of Rajya Sabha is not served by the appointment of ‘crude’ politicians to the Upper House. It appears that the Rajya Sabha has become an abode, if not a den, for defectors, defeated politicians and moneybags. How come two defectors were nominated from Uttar Pradesh to Rajya SabhaIJ What is the need for P Chidambaram to be nominated from MaharashtraIJ Is there no one in Maharashtra, who can contribute equally, if not more, than the former Union Minister and Congress leaderIJ
The use of the Rajya Sabha to block Goods and Services Tax legislation is the sign of immature politicians blocking the growth of our nation. It indicates that Rajya Sabha has become an another opening for sycophants to be rewarded by their political masters. The seats of Rajya Sabha seems to be reserved not for intellectuals but the powerful of society.
