Historical faults

PN Saxena

Sir — This refers to the article, “No doubt a hero, but with faults” (January 4) by KG Suresh.  The article clearly depicts the paradox of Indian history. Recent controversies have shown that even as history shows Aurangzeb and Tipu Sultan in bad light, their admirers are very much in existence, that too in large numbers. It is believed that Aurangzeb converted lakhs of people forcibly and was responsible for bringing down a large number of temples. Tipu Sultan too was known to be an intolerant and tyrannical ruler.

While Jawaharlal Nehru’s contributions to the making of modern India cannot be forgotten, big blunders made by him on Kashmir, Tibet, China etc, despite Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s advice, have cost India dearly.
