Sir — This refers to the news report, “Dec 16-Apr 17: Has anything changedIJ” (April 20). The kidnap, rape and brutalisation of a five-year old child in the nation’s capital, must be condemned in the strongest words possible. It won’t be wrong to say that we are becoming an ethically and morally bankrupt nation.
Unfortunately, despite a new law in force, sex-related crimes have continued unabated, which only shows that the perpetrators are undeterred by any threat of punishment. We need pro-active measures and a sensitive police force to pre-empt such heinous crimes. Also, we must make death sentence mandatory in sex-related offences.
