Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Dark side of glamour” (June 6). Arguably, the film industry is the most demanding show business, and the young and the bright-eyed entering it are really unaware of the dark underbelly of tinsel town.
Former Miss India and actor Neha Dhupia is spot on in her observation that actors are under pressure — be it about the fate of their first film, the tension of remaining on or near the top, or a relationship that is not on firm ground. Kuljeet Randhawa (actor-model), Nafisa Joseph (former Miss India), Divya Bharti (actor) and one of Hindi film’s most talented writer, director, producer and actor Guru Dutt, are just some names from the world of celluloid who succumbed to pressures and lost their lives.
The world of fashion, glamour and films is a different world from ours, where name, fame and opulence seem the driving forces of life and lack of any of this leaves the aspirant jittery and under pressure. While a few of them are able to tackle the pressures and find their way out, others are not so sturdy; they either quit the profession or end their lives. It’s indeed a sad way to go, leaving behind a string of unfulfilled dreams and hopes.
