Sir — This refers to the editorial, “An early shot in the arm” (February 17). The Indian cricket team’s mesmerising win over Pakistan augurs well for the team’s plans to defend the World Cup. The team played as a cohesive unit, putting behind its recent bad form. Skipper MS Dhoni marshalled his resources well. His bowling changes and field placings were spot on. Mr Virat Kohli’s 100 was as usual good. But the return to form of the likes of Shikhar Dhawan and Suresh Raina, is good news for India.
Similarly, Mohammed Shami’s seam and swing variations and Umesh Yadav’s pace and bounce made for a heady cocktail. Mohit Sharma and R Ashwin too chipped in. But a task well begun is only half done. One hopes India will maintain this winning streak by consistent display and lift its game to a new level in the rest of the tournament. The team should focus on the task at hand, nothing else. Make no mistake: This young team is capable of going all the way.
