Letter to the Editor

Good verdict

Chennai

Sir — This refers to the editorial, “The perils of prevarication” (January 22). In a landmark judgement, the Supreme Court has commuted the death sentence of four Veerappan aides and 11 others, to life, citing the inordinately delay in the disposal of their mercy petitions.

It is a welcome judgement. Those who are against capital punishment will appreciate it. Capital punishment needs to be abolished.  Many countries have done away with the death penalty, because two wrongs cannot make a right. Death sentence is wrong as it does not allow the convict to reform. India too should abolish the death penalty.
