Sir — This refers to the article, “Omar sat while Kishtwar burned” (August 14) by Hari Om. It is unfortunate that some fringe elements in Kishtwar have tried to spark communal violence between the two groups during the time of a religious festival.
It is evident that the State is divided between the majority and the minority groups and it did little, at least in the initial days, to quell the violence and arson. The Government should now make an effort to assuage the hurt of the minority community and restore law and order, especially in areas where violence and tension had erupted.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s Government is famous for not taking action, when most needed. He has been blaming everyone, from the media to his rivals in the State and the BJP for ‘communalising’ the Kishtwar flare-up, but his own inept administration. There’s more to administering a State than merely tweeting one’s concerns.
