Sir — This refers to the article, “larger game plan of the Sunni Islamists” (July 7) by Balbir Punj. The article has aptly highlighted certain significant points. First, the Iraq crisis is not likely to be confined to the borders of Syria and Iraq. It may extend to the entire Islamic world.
Second, the Wahhabi and Salafi fanatics are behind this movement. They want to establish a medieval type of Islamic caliphate to lead and expand the Islamic world in new areas including India.
Finally, we should not believe that the ISIS is a localised phenomenon. We must be aware of its global and, indeed, lethal implications. let us not forget that one Osama bin laden was able to influence the entire Muslim world from Egypt to Afghanistan to Pakistan.
