Sir — This refers to a report that Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has decided to donate half his wealth to his country. Egypt has come out from nearly three decade of tyranny of President Hosni Mubarak following unrest in the Arab world, ignited by the ‘Arab Spring’ beginning in Tunisia in the spring of 2011, and the elevation of Mohamed Morsi as its President following the Muslim Brotherhood,s victory and his fall. Egypt’s economy is in doldrums and struggling to come out from the marshy situation.

By magnanimously announcing to donate half of his personal wealth and salary to improve the debt-stricken country’s economy, he has set an example for other Egyptians to follow. Back home, quite a few of our politicians have stashed their ill-gotten black money in foreign banks so that their posterity may not toil hard. They must learn a lesson or two from the Egyptian President.
