Fueling protests

KV Seetharamaiah

Sir — It is unfortunate that Gurmehar Kaur, a student of Delhi University, received rape threats allegedly from members of the the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). However, all allegations need not be true. The threat may be real  but the source of the perceived threat may be wrong. The wrong-doers must face the law.

It is no secret that the ABVP was opposed to the idea of inviting JNU student Umar Khalid and Shehla Rashid to address a seminar at Ramjas college. The seminar was subsequently cancelled. However, to put the blame on the ABVP for the protests that followed next, is misleading. It is possible that some miscreants may have issued threats so that the blame can be easily passed on to the ABVP. Persons involved must be nabbed and the law must take its course.
