Letter to the Editor

Fragile democracy

Janga Bahadur Sunuwar

Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Democracy in danger” (July 31).  The democratic Government in Pakistan had been bludgeoned by the deep-rooted corruption and a dearth of dishonest political leadership along with the powerful military dictatorship. Pakistan’s Supreme Court has set a healthy precedent in removing the rot in the form of Nawaz Sharif, resulting in his disqualification.

The fragile democracy is teetering on the brink of collapse as democratically elected leaders almost never succeed in completing full term owing to corruption and coup often supported the Army.
